This idea came to light based on highly capable tablet PCs. We find that these devices meet our requirements for data storage, battery life (more than 24 hours in most cases), and portability – while maintaining the small footprint that was our primary goal. The TFT screen and audio in/out capabilities also offer more communication options.
We have focused on the Windows 7 based tablet PC for development and testing, and have made both flexibility and versatility priorities; and the mobile DVR application, or modules of it, will work on most PCs, laptops and notebooks, tablet PCs or even some handheld mobile devices.
The small footprint of the tablet PC enables easy installation into the passenger compartment of most vehicles where the touchscreen is easily accessible by the driver. The DVR offers up to 24 hours of on board video storage with up to four IP-enabled cameras and two-channel audio. With the addition of wireless broadband, real time streaming of captured data is a possibility. The features of the DVR platform allow a high degree of interactivity between dispatch and drivers by combining VoIP, GPS, and Instant Messaging capabilities.
GPS Along with the key features available with most GPS devices on the market, we choose to highlight geo-fencing and real-time viewing as our key features. Geo-fencing allows you to designate a geographical area for each fleet vehicle and will notify you if that car either leaves the area or is dormant for an extended period. Real time viewing allows you (and your customers) to track each car’s progress to and from each destination
Our unit is compatible with all popular Computer Aided Dispatch systems and allows you to direct your fleet and update your office in real- time.
VoIP communication is made possible via a wireless handset or embedded softphone with an EVDO or wireless broadband connection. VoIP can maintain your ability to stay in touch with your fleet or out-bound salespeople while protecting your cash flow by minimizing, or even eliminating, per minute cell phone charges.
