TIPS & TRICKS

Perform Updates Regularly

You should do software updates on a regular basis. This includes Microsoft Windows updates, anti-virus and/or anti-spyware updates and the updates for other programs like Adobe or HP scanner software, that may occur on a less frequent basis.

Run Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware Scans Weekly

As well as getting the updated virus and spyware definitions on a regular basis you will need to perform the scans. Doing the scans weekly will keep on top of the problem and limit any damage these files may cause. Just remember that virus scans can be run from one user profile and scan the whole computer, but spyware scans need to be run under each users’ profile individually.

Computer Frozen and Won’t Shut Off?

Sometimes static electricity builds up inside the computer causing it to freeze. Press and hold down the power button until the computer turns off. Leave the computer off for 15-20 minutes allowing the static electricity to dissipate. Then turn the computer back on. This tends to happen if the computer is sitting directly on the floor especially when the flooring is carpet.

Computer Keeps Shutting Off?

When computers get overheated they tend to shut down. Feel your computer case – if it feels warm or hot to the touch you may have an overheating problem. Ensure that the computer vents are dust free. Make sure that the air around the computer can circulate freely e.g. not in a tight or enclosed space.
